I had a really hard time finishing Season 2... actually I havent finished it. I feel like all the characters aren't even the same anymore, story is nonsense (more than it was before) and it just didnt felt right. I know Lynch finished the 2 final episodes but i just couldn't get there... maybe i should try again
An important thing to know about Season 2 is that Lynch essentially jumped ship and left the show to Mark Frost and the rest of the crew. Episode 9 is the last one he was involved in, to the best of my knowledge, and it really shows. The characters change, the plot meanders and goes in ludicrous directions, and weird shit happens that just comes off as corny/wacky. Like they were thinking, "Damn we need some Lynchian stuff, any ideas?". But because there's only one David Lynch, the show didn't feel like its old self.
I'd strongly recommend revisiting Season 2, watching until Episode 9, then just watch the last two episodes of the season. Maybe read some plot synopses of the skipped eps (or not, I didn't and it wasn't a big deal). The Finale in particular is outstanding, Lynch returned to wrap the show up and he really knocked it out of the park. The final scene is a contender for best series end ever imo. Maybe read some plot synopses of the skipped eps (or not, I didn't and it wasn't a big deal).
THEN watch the movie "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me". It's just so damn good and so much darker than the show. Then you're ready for The Return, which you should be warned, is a radical departure from the first 2 Seasons.

Give it another shot! Hope this helps.
